For much of the 20 years that the Carolina Panthers have been playing in the NFL, they have largely gone unnoticed. Unnoticed by the media, fans, and other NFL teams. When thrust into the spotlight after one of the most winning seasons in NFL history, it was inevitable that the mountains of negative comments would come pouring from the woodwork.
From the outside looking in, it may look like the Panthers play with arrogance. But it’s not arrogance. It’s a team doing great things and having fun doing it. They’re playing for a town that has always loved them, through seasons thick and thin. The celebrations in the end zone, the footballs handed out to the young fans and the way in which they play football is as much (if not more!) for their fans as it is for the players themselves.
Seattle Seahawks’ Richard Sherman said something this past week that really put the Panthers’ 2015 play style into perfect focus. “If you don’t get to celebrate in the pros, when do you get to celebrate? I mean, this is a game. I think some people who’ve never played it, who’ve never expressed passion, sit behind desks all day and do that. Maybe you celebrate sometimes when you do something great, and nobody judges you, because nobody’s watching.”
So with that, I leave you with a few images from the Seahawks vs Panthers game. Keep Pounding, Panthers.
